THE Barangay Ginebra Kings dominated the TerraFirma Dyip, 102-80, to clinch the top seed in the quarterfinal round of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Monday, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.
A day after catching flak for their listless performance in a 66-81 loss to San Miguel, Ginebra was sharper this time around and blew the game wide open with a strong second quarter showing that gave them a 61-37 halftime lead.
TerraFirma bounced right back and pulled as close as eight in the third quarter but Ginebra had too much firepower and pulled away in the fourth to snatch the victory and end the elimination round with an 8-3 (win-loss) record. They will face off against the eighth seed in the next round armed with a twice-to-beat advantage.
High-flying forward Japeth Aguilar led Ginebra with 21 points on perfect 10-of-10 shooting from the field. Aljon Mariano had a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards while Stanley Pringle chipped in 14 markers.
Scottie Thompson almost had a triple-double wit 13 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Dyip fell to 1-9. (JNP)
