Police are appealing for witnesses after a seven-year-old girl died when a lorry crashed into her while she was riding her bicycle.

The incident happened on the A338 Church Street in Collingbourne Ducis in Wiltshire shortly before 6.30pm on Tuesday.

The girl, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was taken to Salisbury District Hospital but died a short time later, Wiltshire Police said.

The force said that the girl’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Following the incident, a section of the road was closed for more than eight hours to allow collision investigation work to take place.

Police said that the driver of the heavy good vehicle (HGV) remained at the scene but no arrests have been made.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist police enquiries, is urged to call Wiltshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting log 225 as of 13/07.
