This might come in handy one day, girls!
Facebook user Marry Ferjel Babasa shared a now-viral post last night detailing how she made her own pepper spray at home.
“GIRLS!!! Because there are a lot of bad guys now, I’ll share my life saver hack. [It’s] super easy and affordable so no hassle,” she said in her caption in English and Filipino.
The hack is really simple too. All you need is a spray bottle and two to three chili peppers. Cut the peppers into small pieces, put them in the bottle with water in it, and shake the bottle. That’s it.
Babasa told Coconuts Manila through a Facebook message that the Philippines isn’t safe anymore.
“I shared this so everyone especially ladies will be informed about it,” she said.
She said she can vouch that the DIY spray really does work. To test how effective it is, people can spray it on a piece of paper and take a whiff.
Babasa said that she didn’t expect her post to go viral.
“I was really shocked with the number of shares and most of it are girls. And that gave me the idea [of] how us girls really seek for protection,” she told Coconuts.
She said she has been making the pepper spray since 2016 replaces the mix with a new batch every six months. While she has never used it on someone, she says, it’s better to be prepared.
The Facebook post received over 18,000 likes, 12,000 comments, and 59,000 shares as of this article’s posting. Netizens thought the idea was brilliant.
Michelle Torres tagged a friend and said in Filipino: “This is much more severe than [normal] pepper spray, I’m going to make one too.”
Yani Catubay tagged a bunch of friends and said she’ll have this handy when she goes home late.
Gabriel Alexander Moral suggested it would be better if she mixed it with vinegar so it would hurt more.
“And when you don’t use it, you can turn it into a dipping sauce,” he joked.
Justine Parala tagged his girlfriend and said: “Love, this is for when there are bad people, and if there aren’t, you can spray it on your food.”
Kimberly Del Mundo Padilla tagged a friend and said: “Do this so you’ll be safe later.”
