Glee star Naya Rivera is to make a posthumous appearance in the upcoming Netflix series Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet.

The third season of the baking competition premieres in both the US and UK today (July 31), just a couple of weeks after Naya's body was found in Lake Piru, Los Angeles.

The actress and singer, who was laid to rest a few days ago, tragically drowned in a boating accident earlier this month.

Naya's guest role on the reality series was filmed back in February, Deadline is reporting, shortly before the coronavirus pandemic halted production across the entertainment industry.

Appearing alongside the show's host Hunter March and professional chef judges Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo, Naya will appear as a guest judge on the panel.

Ahead of Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet's release, Netflix has been in consultation with Rivera's manager over the use of footage. With the family's blessing, the episode featuring Naya will air as planned with an on-screen dedication to the actress.

The news of Naya's final TV appearance comes shortly after her sister Nickayla paid a touching tribute to the late star. "Side by side or miles apart, our connection is infinite," she wrote.

"Our bond is unbreakable. We were complete opposites, yet simultaneously the same. The yin to my yang. I never knew that by losing you, I would find so much of you in myself... I've never known a life without you in it & still can't imagine it.

"My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still."
