Golez Denies He Caused Break Up Of Koko-Jewel Marriage

MANILA, Philippines - Bacolod City Rep. Anthony Golez Wednesday denied causing the break up of Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III and Jewel May Lobaton, who was Binibining Pilipinas-Universe in 1998.

Golez, a neophyte lawmaker in the House of Representatives, issued the statement after Pimentel confirmed his separation from the beauty queen, who had been his wife for 12 years with whom he had two sons, earlier this week.

"I categorically deny having anything to do with the break up of a relationship. We have been implementing different advocacies that are very important to the people of Bacolod most especially the children and the needy," Golez said.

"Let's respect the privacy of the two, who are undergoing a difficult time. Let's pray for them and wish them the very best as they go on their separate ways," he said in a text message.

Pimentel admitted to failing to work out differences with his wife for his sons, but assured that the situation would not get in the way of his responsibilities as a senator.

Unconfirmed reports said Golez had been seen with Lobaton in various restaurants and malls outside Manila on several occasions.

In October last year, Golez and Lobaton unveiled P32-million renovation project to turn the Bacolod National High School into a world-class sports and special events center. (Rio Rose Ribaya)

A doctor by profession, Golez served as the chief of the National Disaster Coordinating Council and a deputy spokesperson of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

He has been rumored to have separated from his wife.
