Google+ trends: Miss Universe 2012 crowned

On Thursday, December 20, the crowning of Miss Universe 2012 is causing a buzz on Google+.

The title of this year's Miss Universe went to 20-year-old beauty queen Olivia Culpo from Rhode Island, beating 89 other contestants from around the world.

Twenty-three-year-old Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon came in second place, followed by Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero.

Elsewhere on Google+ users are either worrying about the end of the world or mocking those who are. Some believe that the world will end on December 21 due to an interpretation of the Mayan calendar.

However the apocalypse is not stopping many Google+ users from planning how they are going to usher in 2013, causing "New Year" to trend in fourth place.
