Prince George, the oldest of the Cambridge children, turned seven years old on Wednesday 22 July, 2020.

The third in line to the throne marked his birthday at Anmer Hall, the Cambridges’ home in Norfolk, as his summer break from Thomas’s Battersea began.

Prince George, whose full name is George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, was born at 4.24pm on 22 July, 2013, in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington, London.

He was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in The Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace in October 2013. He wore a handmade replica of the traditional christening robe worn by royals for generations.

George went on his first royal tour when he was just nine months old, accompanying the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their official three week tour of New Zealand and Australia.

George spent his early years in Norfolk with his parents, and attended Westacre Montessori School nursery there.

Now he attends Thomas’s Battersea, though he has been homeschooled during the coronavirus pandemic.

George has been called “funny and feisty and cheeky” by his godmother Julia Samuel, a long-term friend of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

He’s known for not always being the smiliest of royals, and his mother Kate revealed a lockdown sunflower competition with his brother had made him a bit grumpy - because he wasn’t winning.

George is often the subject of mum Kate’s photography, and royal fans have been treated to seeing him in some new pictures during lockdown. He was seen standing tall behind his dad in photos released for Father’s Day, and walking alongside him as they volunteered in pictures released for Charlotte’s birthday.

And she took his photographs to mark his seventh birthday.

He also made a television appearance, clapping for carers with his family during the BBC’s Big Night In, in the early stages of the pandemic.

Of course George doesn’t yet carry out engagements, but he is seen with his family at big events, like the Trooping the Colour.

He also accompanied his mum and dad to their King’s Cup regatta, where he donned a fetching sailor’s hat, and he made his Sandringham Church debut in 2019, at the Christmas Day service.

George has been a royal pageboy on multiple occasions too: for his auntie, Pippa Middleton, as well as for his uncle Prince Harry.

He was also a pageboy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank, in October 2018.

Family events give him a chance to show his cheeky side, and there is a clear friendship forming with his older cousin Savannah, the daughter of Peter and Autumn Philips.

And in photos to celebrate his grandpa’s 70th birthday, he looked close to Prince Charles.

Since starting at school, public appearances of the young royal have waned, with his parents leaving him at home when they travel on royal tours.

There has also been speculation about whether he will go to boarding school as he gets older.

Both George’s father and his uncle were full time at boarding school by the age of eight, but William and Kate have surprised royal watchers with education choices before. It was assumed George would attend the same Notting Hill school as his father, but instead they sent him to Thomas's, a coed school with a more mixed attendance than exclusive Wetherby.

George has been homeschooled during lockdown, and his parents have spoken about how it’s been going and given lots of insights into life for this cheeky seven-year-old.

During a call to a retirement home, Kate and William read out numbers for a game of bingo. Kate’s call for 55 revealed something George is a fan of, as she said: “George would like this one—five and five, snake’s alive.”

Kate also revealed she kept homeschooling George and Charlotte during the Easter holidays, though she felt a bit guilty.

And as VE Day approached, she shared that the two older children had been learning the words to ‘We’ll Meet Again’ by Vera Lynn, a song quoted by their great-grandmother, the Queen, in a message to address the coronavirus pandemic.

When William made a trip back to the pub, as they reopened, he was sure to support his local – one George and Charlotte love too, because they had previously played outside in the playground.

William also revealed George’s favourite TV show is Paw Patrol as he spoke to a cystic fibrosis sufferer who had been shielding during lockdown.

Not only would Prince George’s phonebook boast the likes of former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, he once hit some balls around with tennis royalty - Roger Federer.

Last year, Kate revealed that George got the chance to play with former world number one Federer, who is friends with the couple.

George was previously said to be having tennis lessons at the exclusive Hurlingham Club in Fulham, South West London.
