A grain of satisfaction

WHILE happiness is subjective, one thing that will surely turn anyone’s frown upside down is great food.

Grilled, baked, fried, sauteed—you name it. Taking raw produce and turning them into something so mouthwatering is like seeing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

With a mission to make people happy, sous chef Wally Fetalvero, food and beverage manager Alfredo Magdales and Angela Emphasis of Diamond Suites and Residence, revamped Grain Restaurant’s menu, making sure every bite leaves a grain of satisfaction.

Reigning supreme after landing in the Top 3 of “Cebu Goes Culinary,” a biennial contest among hotels, schools, and establishments members of the Hotel Resort & Restaurant Association of Cebu, the three were inspired to create a new, revitalized menu.

Taking the time to mesh harmoniously what guests want and what they want as foodies and practitioners in the service industry, Fetalvero, Magdales and Emphasis studied customer feedback and placed customerfavorites in crafting a fare of favorites with a twist.

“The aim was to create a dining experience that feels like a warm hug, such as the monggo with salted egg and lechon kawali (combining the sweetness of gata, saltiness of salted egg, and texture of kawali), and fried chicken adobo (chicken marinated in adobo sauce and fried to perfection). Also in our menu are our versions of the mee goreng and shrimp with green pea puree, both of which won in the ‘Cebu Goes Culinary’ competition,” said Emphasis.

With food curated carefully like fine pieces of art in a museum, Grain Restaurant has some of the items included in the buffet to tie the ala carte and buffet menus together. Although menus are created differently from one another, the restaurant believes that favorites are favorites after all and should not be limited to one menu alone. Look out for new dishes though as the restaurant makes it a point to be dynamic with their palettes, sprucing up new flavors every now and then.
