Cebuano big man Greg Slaughter will be making his long-awaited return to the hardcourt, albeit this time, it will be in Japan after the 7-footer signed with the Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka in the B.League.

The team made the announcement on Saturday morning. Slaughter confirmed this through his social media accounts.

“I’m thrilled to announce that I have signed with Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka (@rz_fukuoka) of the B League for the 2022-2023 AND 2023-2024 seasons. I’m looking forward to joining the team and playing for their great city and fans,” said the former Cesafi MVP.

“Thank you to everyone involved in making this possible and thank you to the club for being so welcoming and generous to me and my family!! Most of all, thank you to all that believe in me. Please continue supporting me on this journey and the Rizing Zephyr! Let’s do this!” Slaughter continued.

This development ends Slaughter’s long hiatus from basketball after he and his former PBA team, the NorthPort Batang Pier, failed to negotiate a new contract after his previous one expired early this year.

The 34-year-old still produced impressive numbers in his last stint with the Batang Pier, norming 14.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the 2021 Governors’ Cup.

Slaughter will try to help Fukuoka improve after the team finished with a 20-30 record last season.
