Petro Gazz’ multi-pronged attack was on full display on Sunday night in their 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, win over Black Mamba-Army in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center.
In their first game together, Cebuana Grethcel Soltones connived with elite scorers Myla Pablo, and Ces Molina to run roughshod over Army’s defense. Soltones finished with 18 points from 16 attacks, an ace and a block while Pablo and Molina produced 16 and 15 points, respectively, to help Petro Gazz get its campaign off to a victorious start.
Soltones said that this was just the first step in their process of getting to know one another and how to play together.
“Ang iniisip namin kailangan ibaba namin yung ego namin as a player.
Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog added that what fans saw wasn’t close to what they hope to achieve in terms of cohesion. But it was a good step in the right direction.
“Honestly one and a half months pa lang kaming magkakasama, so yun nga based doon sa last training namin sa Manila doon sa bubble don, hindi pa natin nakikita yung pulidong galaw natin as a group but basically because of every other day na (schedule) natin, doon natin made-develop hopefully,” said Laniog.
(JNP)
