Gronholm leaves hospital after rallycross crash

Two-time former world rally champion Marcus Gronholm was released from hospital Saturday, a week after suffering a nasty crash during practice at the rallycross X Games in Los Angeles.

The Finnish star was knocked unconscious after hitting a concrete post while at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta last Saturday.

"Marcus will spend the weekend in California to rest with his family before organising his return to Finland," read a statement from Gronholm's press team.

The 44-year-old won the World Rally Championship in 2000 and 2002 before announcing his retirement from the sport in 2007.

Gronholm subsequently returned to the WRC for brief spells in 2009 and 2010 before joining the US-based rallycross circuit a year later.
