Group calls for safe reopening of schools

A CEBU education advocacy group has called on both the Department of Education (DepEd) 7 and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) 7 to hold a dialogue and address the concerns and demands the group had petitioned for.

The Rise for Education Alliance-Cebu (R4E-Cebu) has forwarded its “Ligtas Na Balik Eskwela” petition paper to DepEd 7 and CHEd 7 on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, in line with the International Students’ Day celebration.

The group said members of the education sector deserve the “long-overdue” Covid-19 response, particularly the conduct of free mass testing, aggressive contract tracing, and proper relief assistance, to pave the way for a safe gradual reopening of schools.

The group also said a safe gradual reopening of schools should be ensured by improving school facilities and resources, such as school clinics, disinfecting areas, trained medical staff, mass testing for teachers and staff, and others./WBS
