‘Gulayan Sa Paaralan’ Winners Awarded

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga - The Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School (FGNMHS) on Monday conferred as the city's most outstanding school for 2012 after showing exemplary performance in fostering vegetable gardening here with the theme "Gulayan sa Paaralan".

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan led the awarding ceremony of the winning schools with best agricultural and environmental practices in this city.

EPZA Elementary School (EES) and Angeles City National High School (ACNHS) ranked second and third respectively.

"Gulayan sa Paaralan" (vegetable gardening in the school) was launched last year by the City Agriculture Office (CAO) in cooperation with the Division of City Schools, encouraging all public schools to plant agricultural crops within their area as one way of addressing the problem with hunger and malnutrition.

The program aims to encourage public schools to utilize vacant areas in their schools for planting of various crops and to raise the public's awareness on the nutritional value of vegetables to child's development and learning process.
