Gun-for-hire trade alarming

Orani, Bataan - The Orani Municipal Police Station (MPS) revealed yesterday that it is investigating a fledging gun-for-hire trade syndicate in this town that might be involved in recent shooting incidents in this province and other parts of Central Luzon.

Chief Inspector Arnel Dial, chief of police, said that they are now investigating the background of Manuel Ballares of Barangay Camacho, Balanga City, who was apprehended minutes after he and his colleague Almario Andaya, of Barangay Tuyo, Balanga City, allegedly shot and wounded Antonio Ventura, Jr., a businessman of Mulawin, Orani, around 8 a.m. last Friday.

Dial said that as the two gunmen were making their getaway after shooting Ventura along Gov. Pascual Road, their motorcycle collided with a tricycle.

Ballares was caught by police while Andaya managed to elude arrest. They are being probed for possible links with the New People's Army (NPA).

Meanwhile in Orion, this province, Mayor Antonio Raymundo is urging Gov. Albert Garcia to increase the reward money for information leading to the arrest of two gunmen who shot dead Orion Water District General Manager Cecilia Tuazon, 58, recently.

Raymundo has already offered a P100,000 bounty for the capture of the gunmen who killed Tuazon, whom he described as "one of Orion's most beloved citizens."
