AT LEAST two persons were killed in a “free-for-all” shooting in Barangay Luyang, San Remegio town in northern Cebu at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

One of the two motorcycle-riding suspects who shot dead a 48-year-old real estate agent was also killed by a responding policeman.

Master Sergeant Gregorio Geramis of San Remigio Police Station identified the suspects as Verlito Maralas Marianito, 54, of Barangay Victoria, San Remigio, Cebu, and Rowen Dela Peña Cose, 29, of Barangay Maravilla, Tabuelan, Cebu.

Geramis said the victim, identified as Franklin Capuno Sayson, of Barangay Estaca, Compostela town in northern Cebu, was riding a motorcycle and stopped near a wake in Barangay Luyang when he was shot by the motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Geramis said Marianito disembarked from the motorcycle, approached the victim and shot him several times.

Police officer Laong Laang Cane Toring of the Bogo City Police Station, who happened to be at the wake of the relative of his wife, immediately responded and fired at the suspects.

Marianito died instantly, while Cose, who was hit in the butt, left his motorcycle and fled.

Cose, however, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. of the same day during a hot pursuit operation conducted by the San Remigio and Bogo City police operatives.

According to Major Ian Macatangay, chief of the San Remegio Police Station, Cose has identified a certain Grace Fable, alias "Boy," as the mastermind during police interrogation.

Cose also admitted to the police that they were paid P25,000 by Fable in exchange for the real estate agent's life.

It was learned that Fable got mad at the victim, who did not give him a commission from the sale of the lot worth P13.5 million.

Fable was arrested by the police following Cose's confession.

Fable is reportedly the mother-in-law of Toring and was also attending the wake of his relative.

Prior to the shooting incident, Fable allegedly texted the suspects to come to the wake where he and Sayson agreed to meet.

Macatangay said that Marianito was an ex-convict and a known toughie in their place, while Cose had also been arrested for robbery and gun-for-hire cases. (GPL, GDC, TPT)
