CEBU Governor Gwendolyn Garcia thanked Octa Research Group for understanding how Cebu City and Cebu Province are two separate local government units and for showing that understanding in its report.
In its Jan. 28 report, Octa Research Group said Cebu, including Cebu City, has become an area of “serious concern” with its rising coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) cases. On Jan. 30, 2021, the same independent research group released a report focusing only on Cebu City.
Octa: New Covid cases uptick in Cebu a 'serious concern'
Gwen shrugs off OCTA research group’s warning
“They changed their tune... Maayo. Salamat kay nakasabot namo. Lahi ra na ang Cebu City, lahi ra pud na ang Cebu Province,” said Garcia in a broadcast report by Sugbo News.
Garcia said she answered the Jan. 28 report with facts and figures, emphasizing that “figures do not lie.”
On Jan. 30, 2021, Cebu Province recorded 530 active cases, in which 198 patients are asymptomatic and 260 are mild asymptomatic. The Provincial Health Office reported that all are in isolation.
Cebu Province also records a low isolation center occupancy rate at 20 percent.
Garcia said that the mayors in Cebu Province are ready and knowledgeable on how to manage the Covid-19 cases within their jurisdiction.
“Even if there’s an upward trend (in Covid-19 cases), if there are enough facilities to manage it, to handle it, that is not a serious concern. As I have always been saying, it’s not a matter of achieving zero Covid-19. We have to live with the disease. It’s a matter of managing Covid-19. And that’s exactly what the mayors of our 44 towns and six component cities are doing,” she said. (SunStar Cebu)
