AT LEAST 600 tour guides in the town of Badian have been recommended by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to enroll in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
This is one of the ways to ensure the that these workers stay healthy and get assistance should they fall ill, especially with Covid-19.
According to Garcia, tour guides should not only have protective gear but also insurance since they will be dealing with customers firsthand once tourism reopens.
Garcia said: “It’s not possible to have zero Covid. Just like dengue and tuberculosis, we should accept that Covid already exists.
There’s a PhilHealth package worth P200,000 and I know of someone who paid only P1,800 for his hospitalization because of his PhilHealth coverage.”
Operators of the Association of Kawasan Canyoneering in Badian will be convening to consult and discuss the recommendation of the governor for the tour guides.
Aside from insurance, the local government of Badian is also in the process of acquiring new ambulances to be used during emergencies in tourism activities.(ANV/CBQ)
