A 22-year-old motorcycle-for-hire (habal-habal) driver was arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Barangay Jubay, Liloan town, northern Cebu.

Major Ramil Morpos, chief of Liloan Police Station, identified the suspect as Bryan (not his real name), a senior high graduate and resident of Barangay Yati.

Morpos told SunStar Cebu that Bryan started molesting the 17-year old girl on separate occasions every 1-3 o'clock at dawn in May, July and August 2019 and on October 2020.

Morpos said the rape incidents took place when the victim would go to the house of Bryan to visit the suspect's sister, who is also her friend.

As she could no longer bear the abuses done by the suspect, Maria (real name withheld) decided to inform her parents about her unfortunate experience.

In November 2020, four counts of Acts of Lasciviousness and Rape were filed against the suspect, with a bail of P200,000 for each count.

In December 2020, Bryan filed a counter affidavit. However, during prelimary investigation the court found probable cause that he committed the crime.

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, Judge Maria Dee Seares of Mandaue City RTC Branch 6 issued the warrant of arrest against Bryan for violating RA 7610 or Anti-Child Abuse Law.

The personnel of Liloan Police Station served the warrant against the suspect in his house the following day at 6 p.m. resulting in his arrest.

During police interrogation, Bryan denied raping Maria saying the family of the victim falsely accused him.

The suspect said that he was willing to make a settlement with the parents but the latter were determined to give justice for their daughter.

The suspect is currently detained at the Liloan Police Station. (GDC, TPT)
