A MOTORCYCLE-for-hire (habal-habal) driver got wounded after he was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen past 2 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2022, in Barangay Lamacan, Sibonga town, southern Cebu.

A bystander, who was sitting in front of a sari-sari store, was also hit by a stray bullet.

The victims were identified as Ronelio Alpanta, 30, single, of Sitio Katugasan, Barangay Magcagong; and Cirilo Alima, 40, married, of Barangay Bahay, all in Sibonga.

Alpanta sustained a bullet wound in his shoulder, while Alima was hit in the left buttock.

Police are still tracking the whereabouts of the gunmen, who were riding a black Skygo motorcycle with no licensed plate.

Police Major Rodgene Fudotan, chief of Sibonga Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that Alpanta was waiting for passengers along the roadside when two motorcycle-riding men arrived.

The backrider alighted and shot the victim but missed after his gun malfunctioned.

Alpanta hurriedly left the area and a motorcycle chase ensued.

The backrider continued shooting Alpanta, this time hitting the latter in the shoulder.

Despite being wounded, Alpanta drove his motorcycle as fast as he could until the assailants lost sight of him.

Alima, however, was hit by a stray bullet.

Both victims were brought to Carcar hospital and were declared out of danger.

Police are now looking at personal grudge as the motive in the incident. (GPL, TPT)
