A HABAL-HABAL driver was shot dead on H. Labra St. in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City on Saturday night, Sept. 3, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Rey Montalban of the Guadalupe Police Station, who is investigating the case, identified the suspect as 42-year-old Louie Del Castillo, a resident of Sitio Kadianoy, Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City but who originally hailed from Bacolod City.

Based on initial investigation, the victim was driving to Barangay Guadalupe from Barangay Sapangdaku when he noticed another motorcycle tailing him.

Del Castillo sped off to lose his pursuer. He then stopped on H. Labra St. and parked his motorcycle between two cars.

His pursuer, who was right behind him, also stopped in front of Del Castillo and shot him several times.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Del Castillo’s bloodied body slumped down in the seat of his motorcycle.

Montalban said they are looking at personal grudge as a possible motive for the shooting.

Del Castillo reportedly had an argument with a man where he and other habal-habal drivers parked their motorcycles the other day.

The victim’s live-in partner, 29-year-old Lea Mae Taylo, told SunStar Cebu that she last saw Del Castillo at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

As she and her kid and Del Castillo’s three children from a previous relationship were about to have dinner, Taylo said she received a call from a younger sibling to go to Barangay Guadalupe.

When she got there, she said she was shocked to find Del Castillo already dead.

Police are looking for the gunman.
