A GOOD and hardworking daughter.

This was how Normalita Solis, Jouana Mie Solis-Dacua's mother, described her.

The 29-year-old pharmacy cashier from Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City, died after she was run over by a truck along M. Ceniza Street, Calderohan, in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City, at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Solis told SunStar Cebu on Friday, June 3, 2022, that she was still in shock and could not accept her daughter's fate.

According to a police investigation, Dacua was riding a motorcycle taxi (habal-habal) on her way to work when the motorcycle bumped into a truck.

The impact led the habal-habal driver to be thrown away from the truck while Dacua landed on the path of the truck’s right rear wheel that ran over her head.

Dacua died on the spot, while the motorcycle driver Johnrey Caparoso, 29, of Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City was rushed to the Mandaue City Hospital.

Solis said her daughter was six months pregnant and was supposed to be on a dayoff on the day of the incident when one of her colleagues asked to swap her work schedule.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, Ric Lagura, 47, of Upper Bagakay, Sibonga town in southern Cebu, was detained at the Mandaue City Police Station 6 in Barangay Canduman.

Police Master Sergeant Richard Suycano, Traffic Enforcement Unit chief investigator, told reporters on Friday that the truck driver stated that he only learned of the incident when he was chased by concerned motorists and was told of what happened.

Suycano added that the husband of the victim and the owner of the truck are set to meet Friday afternoon regarding the incident.

Lagura will be facing a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide with physical injury and damage to property if the victim's relatives would file a case against him, the police stated.

Suycano reminded motorists to always observe safe driving even if they are in a hurry.

"Even us in TEU (Traffic Enforcement Unit) we need to drive fast when responding to any traffic incidents, but let us not compromise our safety. Also, let us pray for a safe journey before driving," he added. (HIC, TPT)
