Unless you've been living under a rock with very poor internet connection, it's likely you'll have heard all about a new unauthorised book, Finding Freedom, detailing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship – and that includes lots of excellent tidbits from their wedding day too. One of which even shares that a certain celebrity turned up to the evening reception in full-on fancy dress...
Today though, we want to talk about the speeches, because boy, does its sound like there were some good'uns – in particular, one delivered by Harry's old boarding school chum, Charles van Straubenzee.
Well known for being Prince Harry's best friend, Charlie is also one of baby Archie's godparents. He's a part of a family who've long been close to the royals (he and his brother Thomas, who is Princess Charlotte's godfather, attended Ludgrove School with Harry and William) and Prince Harry served as best man at his wedding to Daisy Jenks in August 2018, just a couple of months after his own big day.
Anyway, back to those speeches! After Prince William (the best man) had his turn on the mic, it was passed over to Charlie, an usher at the ceremony, nicknamed "God's gift, Charlesworth".
When discussing their first day at school together, Charlie told the crowd, "All I wanted was a cuddle from my mummy. Instead, Harry nicked my teddy bear and chucked it on the roof. Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you, how can you put someone in charge of a dorm when that person is worse behaved than the whole dorm combined?" Cue: laughter.
Charlie then allegedly reminisced about how Harry would often fall off his horse when playing polo, due to being hungover, and poked fun at the royal, calling him "our strawberry blonde Prince". He added that Harry "often hated gingers as a kid without realising he was a member of their tribe".
Then, after all the jokes, Charlie took a moment to pay tribute to his close friend and how far he's come since losing his mother. It's said that he "turned emotional" when talking about his pal's struggles as a boy.
"Diana would be so proud and happy to see that Harry [has] found love with such an amazing women, Charlie shared, and she would be thrilled at the prospect of them starting their lives together. Meghan, he concluded, was a phenomenal match for his dear friend, and he was so grateful to her for how happy she [makes] Harry."
