THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has disclosed the three players that it has picked to be part of the special Gilas draft in the upcoming PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) Rookie Draft next month.
They are Filipino-American guard Jordan Heading, big man Tzaddy Rangel and wingman Jaydee Tungcab.
“The SBP, as always, is thankful to the PBA for its cooperation as we build towards the Philippines’ hosting of the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup with Japan and Indonesia,” relayed SBP president Al Panlilio. “We were able to secure five players from the Gilas Draft in 2019 and we’re happy to welcome three additional talents in Jordan Heading, Tzaddy Rangel, and Jaydee Tungcab.”
Tungcab is already familiar with the Gilas as he has been a cadet for a while now. Heading, meanwhile, is a product of Christian Baptist who suited up for the Batang Gilas way back in the 2011 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship. Rangel is a 6-foot-8 big man from National University.
Both Heading and Rangel also played for Alab Pilipinas in the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Basketball League.
The three would be joining the original five players who were picked in the first Gilas draft in 2019: Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, Mike Nieto, Allyn Bulanadi and former two-time Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte.
“We thank the three for their trust and commitment to the program,” said Panlilio. “Over a short span, we’ve seen the development of the program and of the players’ individual talents as well and we’re confident that the upcoming Gilas draftees will benefit greatly under Program Director Tab Baldwin and his outstanding staff of coaches.” (JNP)
