TWO Cebuanos are trading places in the PBA as Blackwater point guard Brian Heruela was traded to Phoenix in exchange for rugged wingman Ron Dennison.
The 30-year Heruela, a product of the University of Cebu, recently returned to Blackwater, the team that drafted him back in 2014, following a trade involving Talk N Text late last year.
His stint with the Elite, however, proved to be short-lived.
However, he expressed his excitement with the development after he talked to Phoenix head coach Louie Alas during practice on Thursday morning.
“I’m excited with this new opportunity. I understand it’s a business and at the same time, I also understand that I just have to go to work and do the best I can to help out my new team,” said Heruela, who has been traded four times in his career.
On the other hand, Dennison was a little more shocked than Heruela with the sudden trade.
“I still don’t know how to react right now because I’m still shocked,” the sophomore wingman said in Cebuano.
He will reunite with his college head coach Nash Racela and high school teammate Paul Desiderio, whom he won a high school title with in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. back in 2011.
“Of course I’m happy that I will be with coach Nash. He was my coach back in college for four years, and I will also be with my former teammates. It’s just that I’m still having a hard time adjusting. Still, I’m thankful to God, because it’s all part of his plan,” said Dennison.
Blackwater now has five FEU players in its fold led by Mac Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, Mike Tolomia and rookie Richard Escoto. (JNP)
