After becoming the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist on Monday (July 26), Hidilyn Diaz has been using her iconic status to inspire the Philippines in becoming a better nation.
In a 20-second video circulating online, the bemedaled weightlifter, who also holds two Olympic records from her historic stint in the 2020 Tokyo Games, shared several qualities of a leader that she believes the next president of the country must possess.

“Ang iboboto ko 'yung pinuno na may pusong winner, hindi pusong talunan," Diaz said. "'Yung maka-Diyos at makatao, hindi makasarili; ‘yung magbibigay ng kalinga, hindi takot. Kayo rin, 'di ba?”
(Translation: "I will vote for a leader who has the heart for winning, and not a defeatist; someone God-fearing and humane, and not self-centered; someone who will care and provide protection, not impose fear. You, too, right?")
With less than a year left before the 2022 Philippine presidential election, Diaz, who was once tagged in the so-called oust-Duterte matrix back in 2019, is making sure to leave an impact on the masses both through her words and actions.
