A member of a notorious robbery-holdup group was killed in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13 in Malolos, Bulacan.
Joseph Gallardo, 23, was a member of the Yamson group that operates within the city of Malolos and was involved in a number of robbery-holdup cases.
The remaining members of the group have long been under PNP surveillance.
During the buy-bust operation in Barangay Mabolo, Gallardo tried to escape after sensing he was transacting with a police officer.
The police gave chase until they cornered him in a cemetery where he engaged authorities in a gunfight and was killed in the process.
The PNP continues to conduct operations against various forms of criminality particularly illegal drug activities despite the skepticism expressed by critics of the drug war campaign.
“Sa mga meron pa rin pagdududa, karapatan po nila yun pero magpapatuloy pa rin ang operasyon para matigil na ang paglaganap ng ipinagbabawal na droga sa ating lungsod,” Acting Provincial Director PSSupt Chito Bersaluna said.
