ABOUT P300,000 worth of belongings were stolen from a homeowner after a thief went inside his house in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Police Staff Sergeant Jessie James Galo told SunStar Cebu on Monday, August 1, 2022, that the victim (who asked not to be named for security purposes) reported the incident to the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Station 3 in Barangay Basak around 2 a.m. of July 19.

Galo said the victim, who currently resides in a subdivision in Mandaue City, told police that the thief went inside his house, particularly in the living room area, after he had forgotten to lock his house's main door the night before the incident on July 18.

The thief, identified as Robel Corbo, 19, a resident of Zone Paliya in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City, stole his things such as laptops, smartphones, USB drives, wallets, shoes, credit cards, government IDs, and even his car key.

The stolen items were worth a total of P325,500, said police.

Galo said this is not the first time Corbo was reported for theft, stressing that he had several cases of robbery and drug selling in different police stations both in Mandaue and Cebu City.

In February 2021, Corbo was nabbed for violating the face mask protocol in Mandaue.

Galo said it might have become easy for Corbo to enter and roam around the subdivision, as it had no security personnel.

After the incident was reported, Galo said the police authorities conducted a manhunt against the suspect for two weeks.

Corbo was arrested on July 24 in a shopping mall in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City by operatives of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Station 4 in Barangay Mabolo following a manhunt.

Recovered from the suspect were only two laptops and hard drives.

Galo said the suspect detected his forthcoming arrest and threw the pieces of evidence in a creek alongside the shopping mall while he was trying to run away from the authorities.

Galo clarified that Corbo is not part of any syndicate or criminal group.

Corbo is currently detained at the CCPO Station 4 in Mabolo. He will face charges that include violation of Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code, or robbery with violence against, or intimidation of person. (HIC)
