Hong Kong veteran actor Benz Hui’s daughter, Charmaine Hui, 24, took to her Instagram to announce her engagement to her Singaporean boyfriend on Monday (18 October).
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, her fiancé has been revealed to be Shane Sim, 26, who is pursuing a Master's degree in Hong Kong, and will graduate next year. Sim’s appearance had been likened to Hong Kong actor Carlos Chan, which Charmaine Hui humbly replied that Chan was more handsome.
Benz Hui also shared his joy on his Instagram, “My daughter is engaged. I’m thankful for everyone’s blessings.”
According to an interview with Lianhe Wanbao, Benz Hui approves of his future son-in-law, “He is an honest man and he loves my daughter. That's all that matters.” He added that he was not anxious for them to get married and said, “Marriage is a matter for the young people.”
The Singapore-born Charmaine Hui is the owner of Cafe Bakeaholic in Sembawang, and had flown to Hong Kong to open a branch there. While she was surprised when Sim popped the question, her parents were apparently in on the surprise proposal.
Although they have not decided on the wedding date, the happy couple will be holding their wedding in both Hong Kong and Singapore. Charmaine Hui also added that it might not happen so soon, as she wanted to focus on her business.
The couple had met through mutual friends six years ago, and hit it off so well that Charmaine Hui brought Sim home to meet her family after a few months. Although the couple had parted ways briefly before, Charmaine Hui reflected that it might not be a bad thing, saying, “Perhaps it was a test, and we both passed it!”
