A CHILDREN’S hospital may soon rise in Liloan, Cebu.
This after the House of Representatives passed on Sept. 27, 2021 House Bill 10254 establishing the Liloan Children’s Hospital.
The bill has been transmitted to the Senate.
The bill was originally filed as HB 8274 by Rep. Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco (Cebu, 5th district) on Dec. 16, 2020 before it was substituted by HB 10254.
In his explanatory note to the bill, Frasco said while the first class municipality has the Liloan Community Medical Emergency Services Center run by the municipal government, and private healthcare facilities, it has no hospital dealing specifically with pediatric concerns.
The hospital would serve patients coming not only from Liloan but also from other parts of the 5th District of Cebu and northern Cebu.
The fifth district is composed of Danao City, and the towns of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, Liloan and the four towns in the Camotes Islands—Pilar, Tudela, Poro and San Francisco.
Under HB 10254, the hospital would be placed under the direct supervision and control of the Provincial Government of Cebu, which would fund its establishment with support from the Department of Health for its capital outlay requirements.
According to the 2020 census of the Philippine Statistics Authority, Liloan was among the most populous towns and cities in Central Visayas with a population of 153,197 residents. (CTL)
