House members give P5k each from salaries to ‘Pablo’ victims

Lawmakers from the House of Representatives have pledged to give P5,000 each, deducted from their monthly salaries, to victims of typhoon “Pablo.” The House passed House Resolution 2938, authored by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., in which lawmakers vowed to donate the amount for relief efforts to those affected by the typhoon. With 285 House members, the pledged donation to Pablo victims will reach over P1.4 million. “Despite efforts of local government units to mitigate the potential damage, rescue and relief operations have been unable to address the immediate needs of our affected countrymen,” the resolution read. “Recognizing their need for aid and relief during this difficult time, the House of Representatives hereby extends financial assistance to the victims of this calamity,” it added. Over 325 people were killed when Pablo ravaged parts of Luzon and Mindanao during the past three days. The state weather bureau said Pablo was the strongest cyclone to hit Mindanao in the past two decades. — DVM, GMA News
