Housing Assistance For Indigenous Peoples

The National Housing Authority (NHA) will extend housing assistance to Indigenous Peoples (IPs) through its resettlement assistance program for local government units (LGUs).

This is part of the Aquino government's program of embracing the indigenous communities in the national shelter program that would afford them modest homes within the ancestral land, said Vice President Jejomar C. Binay.

Binay, the chairman of the NHA board as the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) head said the LGUs are tasked to lead the implementation of housing projects for IPs.

The land required which shall be covered by a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title or CADT for the housing project in an ancestral domain shall be made available by the IP Community in coordination with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

According to Binay, NHA's funding support shall not exceed P10 million per project and shall be allocated out of subsidy funds released to NHA by the national government for resettlement program.

NHA had just completed 16 housing units to the Nabuklod Aeta families qualified for National Housing Authority?s (NHA) Housing Assistance Program for Indigenous Peoples (HAPIP) in Nabuklod Upland Resettlement Project in Brgy. Nabuklod, Floridablanca, Pampanga.

Nabuklod Aetas, who originally came from Old Nabuklod, Floridablanca, are one of the affected communities of Mt. Pinatubo eruptions on June 15, 1991.

Apart from the Aetas in Pampanga, the HUDCC is also finalizing a housing project for the Langilan-Manobo Tribe in Sitio Paiton, Dagohoy, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.)
