After it skipped its annual festival in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Cebu hosted the 2021 K-Pop World Festival on July 3 at Seda Ayala Center Cebu. Out of 86 teams that auditioned, only 18 made the final cut and had the chance to perform during the finals night.
At the venue itself, strict health and safety protocols were implemented for the safety of those who were present. For the entertainment and safety of fans around the world, the event was live-streamed through influencer Malaya Macaraeg’s official Facebook page. This year’s event was the fourth installment of the competition.
The grand winner was Twinea, an all-girl cover group founded in 2017. First runner-up went to Charm Official, based in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. Groups Angel Fire, X.O.X.O, Chemical Edition 2.0, La X-pression Persona and DUXP were awarded as consolation prize winners.
The grand winner went home with P20,000, and will be moving on to the semi-finals of the 2021 K-Pop World Festival in Changwon, South Korea. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be held online. The rest of the winners will also join the Cebu delegation and represent the province in the international music competition.
