Korean automotive brand Hyundai is set to expand its high performance lineup with the coming of Kona N—adding another shade to the known crossover model.
The latest model offering for Hyundai N roster will be powered by a 2.0 liter Turbo engine, which is reportedly the same unit found in the Veloster N. However, this SUV will be fitted with an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (known as N DCT).
While they claim that the Kona N will be equipped with a variety of high-performance driving features such as Launch Control and emotional sound experience, the Korean automaker has yet to reveal whether it would have an all-wheel drive system.
The premier SUV in the N line, the Hyundai Kona N is set to be available soon in Europe.
Hyundai’s Vice President and Head of N Brand Management and Motorsport Sub-division Till Wartenberg is confident in the vehicle’s capabilities.
“The all-new KONA N is the first ‘hot SUV’ from the N brand,” Wartenberg said. “As a ‘hot SUV’, it will have plenty of versatility as well as the driving pleasure like any other N vehicle. N-thusiasts will enjoy taking this car anywhere; from road to the track.”
For his part, Hyundai Motor Europe Vice President of Marketing and Product Andreas-Christoph Hofmann expressed excitement over their latest “mean machine.”
“We’re excited to expand the recipe for success we’ve developed with the i30 N and, most recently, with the i20 N to one of our most popular SUVs on the market today: KONA,” Hofmann was quoted as saying.
“The addition of KONA to the N family will bring our high-performance brand to the next level.”
It was September last year that the 2022 version of the Kona as well as the Kona N was announced globally.
Meanwhile, as the Philippine market has yet to receive any member of the N-line family, Hyundai Asia Resources already confirmed the arrival of the latest version of the Kona this year. Aside from the Kona, the local market will enjoy updates from the Accent, Reina and Starex.
