Ian Somerhalder: I work with hot chicks

Ian Somerhalder says he could be doing worse things than biting "hot chicks every day".

The 34-year-old stars as main bloodsucker Damon Salvatore in the television drama series The Vampire Diaries.

Ian was cast in the hugely popular show in 2009 and is still enjoying the role four seasons on.

“[On The Vampire Diaries] I show up to work and bite hot chicks every day. It could be worse,” Ian joked with Prestige Hong Kong. “I don’t remember exactly when the switch happened where vampires went from being grotesque anomalies to more aesthetically appealing forms.”

The American actor-and-model is rumoured to be a favourite to play Christian Grey in the upcoming movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Universal Studios are set to release the film based on the steamy novel by 2014.

Actresses including Ian's on/off girlfriend Nina Dobrev, Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins, Selena Gomez, Emma Roberts and Lucy Hale have all been linked to the lead female role. Ian is keeping quiet on who he thinks should get the part, but did discuss the stars he'd like to team up with on screen.

“When I was growing up watching movies, the ones I watched daily, almost, were the old Pacino movies, the Godfathers," he explained. "If Cary Grant were still alive, I would love to do a movie with him.”

Ian also shared his passions outside of his career. The hunk set up The Ian Somerhalder Foundation on December 8, 2010. He hopes the initiative will educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals.

“My foundation and I are actually building a farm, a huge animal sanctuary out in Louisiana that’s also a youth-education camp and a sustainable agriculture farm," he explained.
