An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in a town in Maguindanao province early Monday, but there was no initial report of casualties.
The incident occurred at about 8:23 a.m. at Barangay Salibu in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, according to a report by radio dzBB's Glen Juego.
Maguindanao police chief Senior Superintendent Jaime Pido was quoted in the report as saying debris that included metal scraps and remains of a mobile phone were found in the area.
Pido said no one was initially reported injured in the explosion.
Local police are still investigating who left behind the IED, the report said.
The report cited initial information indicating the IED may have been based on a 60-mm mortar. –KG, GMA News
