Illegal drugs, love triangle eyed in slay of butane delivery driver

ILLEGAL drugs and love triangle are among the motives being considered by police into the killing of a delivery truck driver and the wounding of his truck boy at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, in Purok Sandayong 2, Barangay San Roque, Liloan town, northern Cebu.

Arnel Matugas Roble, 40, butane delivery driver, from Purok 4, Barangay Binaliw, Danao City, northern Cebu, succumbed to gunshot wounds, while his truck boy Edmar Jake Casas, 22, was also wounded.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Arnie Goc-ong, investigator of Liloan Police Station, said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that the victims were on their way to the Pepc/Tripler crimping plant to get butane canisters, while the motorcycle riding-in-tandem were tailing them.

But as Roble was about to turn the vehicle toward the plant, the suspects blocked their way.

The suspects disembarked and shot Roble several times. Casas, who was seated beside Roble, was also hit.

The suspects fled toward the mountain barangay of Tabla in Liloan.

Nobody, however, was able to recognize the motorcycle used by the perpetrators.

The shooting incident was also not recorded by the CCTV camera nearby due to brownout.

Goc-ong said they are considering illegal drugs as the possible motive because of the four sachets of alleged shabu that they retrieved from the pocket of the victim.

Another motive is love triangle, Goc-ong said as they received information that the victim had an affair with a married woman.

"Naay nisulti namo diri nga dunay uyab-uyab nga minyo ang bitkima," Goc-ong said.

(Somebody told us that the victim had an affair with a married woman).

Goc-ong said they are gathering more information regarding the personal background of the victim. (GPL, TPT)
