Iloilo, Bacolod eyeing to host ministerial APEC meetings

Iloilo City – The cities of Iloilo in Iloilo province and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental will be finally inspected for the possible hosting of ministerial meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit next year. The Ocular Team from the Office of the Director General of the 2015 APEC-National Organizing Committee (APEC-NOC) is scheduled to visit on February 19 and 20. “The team aims to tackle the brass tacks and delve into particular issues of the hosting,” said Marciano Paynor Jr., APEC-NOC director general. “It is aiming to synchronize the national objectives with that of local units for the Philippines’ hosting of APEC 2015,” Paynor added. Headed by Revimarc de Mesa, the team will inspect various venues and facilities. It includes the airport, hotels, conference facilities, tourist destinations, access roads, hospitals, and other emergency facilities. The cities of Iloilo and Bacolod were originally scheduled to be inspected by APEC-NOC last August, 2013, but it never pushed through. Meanwhile, the Western Visayas region has the most number of localities that have been pre-selected by the APEC-NOC for possible hosting of ministerial meetings. Aside from the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod, world-famous Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, has recently been inspected by the APEC-NOC.
