Inoue beats Donaire by 2nd round TKO

Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue unified the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight belts with a second round technical knockout of Nonito Donaire Jr. at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Inoue dropped Donaire Jr. in the opening round with a right to the temple. He was knocked down again in the second round with a thuderous left. Referee Michael Griffin decided to intervene and stopped the fight in the 1:24 mark of the second round.

Inoue remained undefeated with 23-0 with 20 knockouts, while Donaire Jr. dropped to 42-7 with 28 knockouts.

Donaire Jr. and Inoue first fought in 2019 in the World Boxing Super Series. It was a more competitive fight. But despite a broken eye socket and damage nose, Inoue walked away with the unanimous decision in their first meeting.
