A CARGO container fell on its side after the truck carrying it toppled two electrical posts by snagging the power lines on Friday morning, July 31, 2020, in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, causing heavy traffic along Cebu North Road.
Some trees also fell after their branches got tangled with the power lines.
No one was hurt in the incident, which happened around 11:30 a.m., according to Arnold Malig-on, the operations officer of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team).
Before the van and posts were taken out of the street, only one lane had been available for traffic.
A team from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) rushed to the area. While waiting for the Visayan Electric Company to fix the posts, the CDRRMO responders had to cut down fallen trees into pieces and remove them from the street.
It was the Team personnel who pulled out the 20-footer cargo container that fell off the truck.
Malig-on said the truck was on its way to northern Cebu. While traveling along Jagobiao, the cargo container snagged the wires of the two electrical posts, leading to the road incident.
One of the electric posts was made of wood while the other was made of concrete.
Malig-on said Jagobiao barangay officials had received complaints from the residents about the dangling wires.
Malig-on went to the Visayan Electric office two weeks ago to notify its personnel about dangling wires, telling them the wires could cause a traffic-related incident, which eventually happened Friday. (KFD)
