CEBUANO rock band The Agadiers recently hosted an online song cover contest. Launched last May 26, the contest dubbed “ECQ Cover Contestant - The Agadiers,” attracted singers from all over the country, and some from abroad. ECQ stands for enhanced community quarantine, which Cebu City is now under due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The contest aimed to entertain fans who were stuck in their homes due to the lockdown.
Selected from several entries, Japanese musician iwapt was awarded first prize for his Japanese/English cover of The Agadiers track “Move On.” The winner was awarded a cash prize and a certificate.
Despite the challenges of being in a pandemic, iwapt received his award certificate last July 3, and the Japanese artist donated his cash prize for the surgery costs of a Filipino cancer survivor.
The song “Move On” was part of the soundtrack of local film “Magbuwag ta Kay.”
Currently, The Agadiers is producing its fourth album entitled “Daydreams and Silhouette” featuring Tagalog and English songs. (PR)
