Jay Z lands Barneys line

Jay Z has teamed up with Barneys New York to create a fashion range.

The American rapper's limited edition collection for the luxury store, dubbed A New York Holiday, will feature dozens of products from an array of designers.

From black leather backpacks by Balenciaga to a tailored jacket from Lanvin and a black Balmain square-print scarf all the items are custom made for Jay Z's collection and reflect his own fashion sense.

The section in the store will be titled BNY SCC Gallery, short for Barneys New York and Shawn Corey Carter - the musician's real name.

He hopes this line will inspire wearers and make them feel like they are part of the Big Apple when wearing them.

"With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces," he explained to WWD. "Everything that encompasses A New York Holiday - the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery - represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me."

Fitting in with the festive theme the designs will be on sale from November 20 until January 3, and 25 per cent of the sales are to be donated to the rapper's Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.

Chief executive of the store Mark Lee thinks the pairing is perfect and loves how naturally the project came together.

"If you close your eyes and think about who best represents New York and stands for the city, you can't help but think about Shawn Carter. Jay Z is a born-and-bred New Yorker, and one of the biggest cultural icons of our time - his reach spans across music, sports, business and fashion," Mark gushed. "He embodies so much that is 'New York.' He is a creative force and an entrepreneur. The decision to partner with Jay Z was an easy one - he shares our sensibility, passion and love for New York."
