Jennifer Lawrence believes she will be affected by a 2014 private nude photo leak for the rest of her life. Seven years ago, a hacker stole naked photos of the actress from her iCloud and put them online.
The 31-year-old is still living with that trauma, saying in a new interview with Vanity Fair magazine this week: “Anybody can go look at my naked body without my consent, at any time of day. Somebody in France just published them. My trauma will exist forever.”
Jennifer star told the magazine in a prior interview that it made her feel “like a piece of meat” when now-convicted hacker Edward Majerczyk publicly distributed the very-private contents of her account. She wasn’t the only one it happened to, either. Thirty other stars were targeted, including actress Kirsten Dunst and model Kate Upton.
When Majerczyk was convicted and sentenced to nine months in prison in 2017, it was revealed that he had posed as an internet service provider to collect the usernames and passwords of his victims. One undisclosed victim was granted $5,700 in restitution fees for counselling.
Later that year, Jennifer said that she was still finding it “impossible” to process. Speaking in an exclusive podcast with The Hollywood Reporter, the A-lister said: "When I first found out it was happening, my security reached out to me. It was happening minute-to-minute — it was almost like a ransom situation where they were releasing new ones every hour or so.
"And, I don't know, I feel like I got gang-banged by the fucking planet – like, there's not one person in the world that is not capable of seeing these intimate photos of me.
"You can just be at a BBQ and somebody can just pull them up on their phone. That was a really impossible thing to process."
The Hunger Games actress has taken a noticeable step back from the spotlight in the last few years to marry art dealer Cooke Maroney. They are now expecting their first child.
This December, though, J-Law is back with a bang as she joins a mega cast – including Jonah Hill, Leonard DiCaprio and Meryl Streep – in the hotly-anticipated Netflix drama Don't Look Up. Jennifer will play Kate, an astronomy student, while Leonardo will play her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy. The movie sees the pair make a discovery of a comet that happens to be on course to collide with Earth.
