CEBUANO guard Jerick Cañada wass named one of the Asean Basketball League (ABL)’s All-Time Top 10 list during the launching of the league’s 10th season at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Cañada, a product of Don Bosco, steered both the Hi-Tech Bangkok City and the Indonesia Warriors to the very top of the league. He was also named as the finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) during the Warriors’ title run in 2014.
Two other Filipinos made the prestigious list. Three-time ABL Local MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr., and 2012 Local MVP Leo Avenido were also named to the all-time great list.
Parks played in the ABL for three seasons, winning the league’s MVP trophy in all three years while winning the championship during eighth season of the league. He has averages of 16.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the ABL.
Meanwhile, Avenido was the very first Lifetime Achievement Award winner of the league last season. He led the San Miguel Beermen to the 2012 championship while winning the local MVP plum as well.
The players were chosen based on their accolades like championships and individual accomplishments as well as their years of service and impact in the league.
The process started with identifying the Top 40 players from the last nine ABL seasons. The list was then trimmed to the Final 21 nominees. After the announcement of the Final 21 List, voting was opened to fans through the league’s official website. The Top 10 was made official after a final deliberation, which factored in all the criteria including the fan votes. (SunStar Cebu)
