Popular Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin became the first Singaporean star to be invited to tennis event Wimbledon after his appearance on Sunday (16 July).

Lin appeared at the court stands in Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to cheer on tennis players Roger Federer and Marin Cilic at the men’s singles final, alongside Hollywood celebrities like Uma Thurman, Domhnall Gleeson and Dominic Cooper.

In an interview before the event, the 36-year-old singer also talked about how excited he was to be at Wimbledon for the first time.

“Previously, I only heard about the event through my friends, watched it on TV and read about it on articles. But this time, to come here personally is really surreal,” Lin said.

“I hope that I can share whatever I have experienced here, from the culture, the atmosphere and the history of this place with my family and friends back home,” he added.

A self-professed fan of Federer, Lin posted a selfie with the hashtag “#teamfederer” in support of the Swiss tennis player on Instagram.

He also said, “I’ve always thought that he (Federer) is a very skilled and stylish player. I know that there are many other tennis players who play well too, but Federer has his own style. The way he plays tennis is like an art, that’s what I like about him.”

When asked to choose between the video game DOTA or tennis, the singer said, “I’m a fan of gaming, but I know that I can’t always be playing such games at home. Since I’m here, I would choose tennis.”

The star was previously spotted playing the game at an internet cafe in Bugis during a network outage in Singapore.

Federer claimed a straight sets victory against Cilic and became the first man in the history of the Wimbledon Championships to claim the title eight times.
