After spending the last two seasons with the Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), defensive ace Joel Christian Lee Yu is now looking forward to the chance to play in the PBA after he was picked by the TNT Tropang Giga in the fourth round.
A relentless left-handed guard whose specialty lies in defending the opposing team’s best perimeter players, Lee Yu is eager to fight for a roster spot on a loaded TNT squad that already has one of his best buddies in fellow Cebuano and Far Eastern University product Roger Ray Pogoy.
Lee Yu, who previously played for the University of San Carlos’ high school squad, was over the moon with his selection, especially since it was his basketball idol, Jayson Castro, who announced his selection.
“Maka-overwhelm and this is an answered prayer. It’s every basketball player’s dream to be drafted and to have your name to be called. It’s a once in a lifetime experience,” shared the left-handed guard.
Lee Yu is already quite familiar with TNT having functioned as a practice player during the time when Nash Racela—who was Lee Yu’s coach at FEU at the time—was head coach of the team. (JNP)
