After an almost five-year hiatus from the industry, actor John Lloyd Cruz made rounds on social media for his official showbiz comeback Sunday (June 6) in the Shopee Mid-Year Sale TV Special hosted by William Revillame. The show was streamed on the app’s official YouTube channel and aired on GMA Network.
Following a warm welcome from the host, John Lloyd took the stage and performed the 1970s smash hit "Yakap," by singer-actor Junior. The actor became emotional as he expressed his joy at returning to the screen after taking a self-imposed break in 2017 to focus on his personal life.
The “Wowowin” host then teased viewers about working with Cruz in the near future. “Abangan n’yo ho, abangan n’yo, magsasama kami ni Lloydie sa pagbibigay ng saya sa inyo, sa primetime show,” Revillame said. (Watch out for it, watch out, Lloydie and I will be together again to give you joy, in a primetime show.) It was earlier reported that John Lloyd would star alongside Willie and Andrea Torres in a sitcom.
Before taking a "indefinite leave of absence" from showbiz in October 2017, the 37-year-old actor starred alongside Sarah Geronimo in the 2017 film “Finally Found Someone.” Since then, he has only made a few public appearances, including an ad for Turks and a brief role in Culion, a film that premiered at the Metro Manila Film Festival in December 2019. The specifics of John Lloyd's comeback plans are yet to be revealed. Fans, on the other hand, are already anticipating the project starring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, which was revealed by ABS-CBN Films managing director and film director Olivia Lamasan in January 2021.
