The Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team successfully defended its home floor as it delivered an 84-46 beatdown of Saudi Arabia in the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers on Monday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson was as good as advertised as he produced 23 points, five rebounds, and six assists, in a performance that delighted the 19,829 fans that attended the match. Clarkson—a former Sixth Man of the Year award-winner—was also responsible for lighting the fire from under the Gilas, scoring a long three-pointer before the first period buzzer to give the Philippines some momentum.

Gilas then dominated Saudi Arabia in the next 30 minutes of action, raising its lead to a high of 40, 84-44.

7-foot-3 center Kai Sotto also had an impressive outing as he notched a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks. Dwight Ramos added nine markers, six boards, and two assists, doing most of his work in the second period where he sparked a 10-0 blast to put Gilas ahead, 35-23, at halftime.

The Gilas now have a 3-3 win-loss record with its next set of games coming this November.
