Joy ride on Transcentral Highway turns fatal for motorcycle driver

A MAN died while his girlfriend is in critical condition after they encountered an accident on the Transcentral Highway on Saturday night, November 12, 2022.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Jason Sayson, a resident of Barangay Babag, Cebu City. Sayson worked at a private hospital in the city.

His girlfriend was identified as Ma. Catrina Tampus, a native of Ormoc City, who was his colleague at work.

Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Hilfe, Balamban Police Station chief, said the two were on a motorcycle when it lost its brake while going downhill in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban around 8:30 p.m.

Hilfe said Sayson lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a cliff.

Sayson was declared dead on arrival at the hospital while doctors described Tampus’ condition as “50-50.”

Hilfe said the couple’s companion who was on another motorcycle confirmed that Sayson was driving really fast.

He said the accident was not reported to their station until dawn of Sunday, November 13.

Tampus’ younger sister told radio dySS that her sister and her boyfriend would always go out on joy rides on the Transcentral Highway during their time off. (GPL)
