Actress Julia Barretto has formally joined the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Auxiliary K9 Squadron, the civilian support group of the PCG.

PCG welcomed the actress to its ranks, with Commandant CG Admiral George Ursabia leading the oath-taking ceremonies of Auxiliary Ensign Barretto.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow PCGA members as the most senior appointee, Julia thanked the PCG for welcoming her into the field of public service.

Julia also pledged to actively support the initiatives of the unit “towards the delivery of humble and compassionate service to the Filipino people.”

Meanwhile, Ursabia praised the PCGA's newest members for their commitment to serve the country by assisting the Coast Guard with humanitarian missions and disaster response activities.

Although a volunteer, civilian organization, the PCGA uses a military structure for organizational purposes. Like other volunteer sea rescue organizations around the world, it performs non-military and non-police activities in support of its national navy or coast guard. This endeavor includes search and rescue, environmental protection, disaster relief, community service, and marine safety. The ranks of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary follow those of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Julia’s boyfriend, Gerald Anderson, who himself is an auxiliary lieutenant commander of the PCGA K9 Squadron, was also present at the event.

Both Julia and Gerald shared behind-the-scenes photos of the actress’ latest milestone.

It was only in March of this year that the two acknowledged their relationship publicly despite reports that they had been dating long before.
