Cebuano basketball superstar June Mar Fajardo paid tribute to his “big brother” Marc Pingris who announced his retirement from the PBA on Tuesday night.
In a heartfelt message that was posted on his social media pages, the 31-year old native of Pinamungajan gave thanks to the 39-year old forward for all the memories they shared. While the two never got to be teammates in the Philippine Basketball Association, they shared plenty of moments together on the court and off of it during their time in the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team.
“Brother Marc Pingris, thank you for all the memories and bonding moments,” said the gentle giant. “Thank you for all that you have taught me on the court and in life in general.”
While basketball was obviously something they had in common, the two’s love for online gaming—in particular DOTA 2—lit a spark in their friendship as they played countless hours during their time off from national duties.
Fajardo also praised Pingris for being an ideal role model, not just for himself but also for young basketball players who are looking to make it to the big league.
“Thank you for also being a great role model to us and to the many generations of basketball players that will follow,” added Fajardo. “I will miss you on the court for sure. Brother, enjoy your retirement and congrats again on your successful career in the PBA!” (JNP)
